Maybe your family life doesn't look or feel the way you hoped.
Teen years are a time of growth for youth and parents.
You’re watching your child transform into an incredible new person. Teenage brains, bodies and personalities are changing every day as they learn and respond in different ways.
Growing up can be an exciting and stressful process for teens and their families.
Adolescents are journeying between childhood and adulthood - exercising new independence yet still needing a safety net.
Teenagers are dealing with new challenges in home, school, sport, and social settings. Maybe your teen is showing signs of:
Overwhelming emotions, tears or outbursts
Shutting down, withdrawing or isolating
Friendship or relationship conflict
Dropping grades or changed performance
Disinterest in activities
Excessive worry or fatigue
Lying, stealing, acting out or using substances
Confusion around their identity or gender
Struggling with finding a place to belong
We know you want to feel like a good parent.
Teenagers also want to feel like good kids.
You want your child to have a good life and be prepared for the future.
While youth are learning to juggle new expectations and pressures, parenting is also difficult to navigate, especially when your child is struggling.
Maybe your relationship with your teenager doesn’t look the same anymore.
Perhaps the approaches you used in the past aren't working anymore, and you aren’t sure what to do next. You and your partner might disagree on how to handle things.
As a parent, you want to:
Be confident in your decisions and actions
Feel more connected with your teenager
Help your youth navigate the ups and downs of life and relationships
Learn ways to support your child at this stage of their development
Give your teen everything they need to become the best version of themselves

We offer exclusively online counselling so families can easily connect with a therapist in the privacy and comfort of home.
Your family can connect to a therapist anywhere in the province of Alberta.
The best therapist to meet your unique needs might live in a different area. We love online therapy because it's convenient and flexible, especially for busy families.
Online counselling is covered by private insurance, and you may even find it's easier to connect online.
There's no commute, waiting room, or bumping into others. You are familiar with your environment, and have all your favorite comforts within reach.
We offer online video and phone counselling for teens and families in Calgary and across Alberta. All you need is a phone or for a video session, a device, internet and a quiet place to talk. Some people choose their bedroom, living room, or a friend's place. Family members can be in the same or different spaces.
We're here for you and happy to meet wherever you are comfortable. We offer evening and weekend appointments to fit your family's lifestyle.
We want home to feel like the favorite part of your day.
We get it. We're parents too - we've had or have teenagers.
Our family therapists want to join your journey and help you and your teen grow together.
A message for the teen being asked to go to counselling:
We're here to listen, not change you.
We think teenagers are awesome.
Your brain and body are working really hard right now.
Everything inside and around you is changing.
It can feel exhausting.
Everybody expects so much of you or wants something from you.
And sometimes you have no idea what you're doing.
It's hard trying to find your way in a world that is constantly full of new pressures. Maybe you’re feeling unseen and unheard, like you don’t get a voice in what’s happening in your world.
Maybe you don’t know how to manage all the new things you’re feeling and experiencing.
Maybe you want to want to feel connection and belonging, or maybe you are tired of blending into the background and you're ready to stand out!
Maybe you’re starting to ask some big questions like “who am I?” and “where do I belong?”
Maybe you're feeling pulled in tug-of-war between what's happening now and figuring out what you want.
It's okay to not know. We want you to feel seen and heard, accepting everything about you, exactly as you are.
It's okay to bring the big stuff here. You can bring your anger and fear, your thoughts and opinions, and all your attitude.
We care about connecting with all parts of you, even the parts you don't like.
You can get to know yourself more and feel comfortable in your own skin, trying out new things and ways of being.
You can have better relationships with family and friends, and feel more confident in yourself.
We believe when you know and care for yourself and feel loved by others, you can create your path forward with curiosity and confidence.
Family Counselling Calgary & Alberta Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Does insurance cover family counselling?
Answer: Private insurance usually covers individual and family therapy for the insured member as well as their dependents. You can check with your provider or read our Insurance Guide. We offer direct billing for most insurance companies.
Question: How much does family counselling cost?
Answer: Our therapy sessions range from $150 - $200 per 50-minute session, depending on the therapist you choose. We offer sliding scale fees when families don't have insurance or can't afford the full fee.
Question: Is teen counselling private and confidential?
Answer: Our family counsellors discuss with parents and teens what information will be kept private and what will be shared (safety concerns). To build a good relationship, youth need to know they can trust their therapist. If teens are going to solo therapy, they can choose what to share with their parents after sessions. Sometimes teens invite their parents to join for portions of sessions.
Question: How do we choose a family counsellor?
Answer: If it's for you as a parent, you can read our therapist profiles and choose based on what feels like a good fit. If it's for your teen, you can let them read our family counselling page and our therapist bios, and they can decide. You can also meet the therapist for a free consultation first. If you're not sure, we can help match you to the family counsellor best equipped to meet your family's needs & availability.
Question: Should we all see the same family counsellor?
Answer: It's up to you and your teen. Family Systems therapy considers the whole family unit and benefits from gaining perspectives from parents and youth, however, some teens feel more comfortable if their parent has a different therapist, so this is also a great option!
Question: What if my teen doesn't want to do counselling?
Answer: That's okay! It can be hard to go to therapy. The best thing you can do is give your teen information and choice. Let them know they can meet with a couple therapists first to find a good fit and decide who they want to see, when they're ready. We offer individual counselling and couples counselling for adults and parents too. You can still improve your family life by going to therapy for yourself.
