Helping partners create deep and lasting connections

Happy couple in marriage counselling Calgary

Every relationship can benefit from a little help.

Smiling Couple

You’re here because you want more.

Maybe you want to get out of the past, enjoy the present, or improve the future of your relationship.

You're tired of struggling with the person you love most in the world.

Maybe you argue too much or talk too little or just want to communicate better.

It's common for partners to feel:

  • unheard or misunderstood

  • ignored or rejected

  • disconnected or distant

  • unfulfilled or untrusting

  • stuck in the same negative patterns

You're confused about what's going on in your relationship or why you can't fix what's wrong.

You want to have a happier marriage or relationship.

Marriage and intimate relationships are complex and bring up unexpected feelings and reactions in all of us.

Half of all couples have already tried some type of marriage counselling.

Adults have to deal with home, family, work, money, sex, grief, change, values, health, illness, and the complications of every day life in general.

It can be hard to talk about this stuff.

A lot of relationships share the same struggles:

  • poor communication

  • conflict or blame

  • misunderstood emotions

  • intimacy or sex

  • betrayal, mistrust or trauma

There's a lot happening within and between you. It's okay to get help to deal with what you're facing.

Even a good relationship can get better.

Relationships aren't easy, and things don't have to be falling apart to go to couples therapy.

A therapist can help you strengthen your bond with the ones you love most in this world.

You can connect, understand, and come together on the same side.

When you work through difficult situations together, your partner knows you care and don't want to hurt them.

Marriage counselling can help you build a relationship that feels great.

You can enjoy life together and create deep emotional connections.

You can get unstuck and find new ways forward to a happier marriage.

You can each do your best and grow through mistakes when you feel seen, heard, accepted and loved.

What if you could...

  • trust each other

  • listen and understand

  • have more fun together

  • set and keep boundaries

  • be excited for the future

Our couples therapists offer compassionate care with empathy.

By asking, listening and watching without judgment, they can help you identify patterns, pains, and unmet needs in yourself and your relationship.

Couples counselling can help individuals and partners navigate conflict or life transition, soothe anxiety or avoidance, and better manage stress or trauma.

Going to therapy doesn't mean anything is wrong with you. We all have things we want to improve about ourself and how we relate to others.

Couples therapy is good for everyone.

A couples counselor can help you:

  • regulate emotions

  • improve communication

  • overcome barriers

  • heal past wounds

  • work together to resolve tensions

Couples can connect to a therapist anywhere in Calgary and Alberta.

We love online therapy because it's convenient and flexible, especially for busy partners, or even long distance relationships.

There's no commute, waiting room, or bumping into others.

You are familiar with your environment, and have all your favorite comforts within reach.

All you need is a device, internet, and a quiet place to talk. Some partners choose their bedroom, office, dining room, or living room. Partners can be in the same or different spaces.

We offer evening and weekend appointments to fit your lifestyle.

Connect on a deeper level with your partner

You might still have some questions or concerns about marriage and couples counselling...

Is couples counselling confidential?

What happens in therapy stays in therapy! Your counsellor is bound by strict confidentiality laws unless they’re legally obliged to share information. However, your therapist is not a secret-keeper. If one partner discloses something in private to the therapist, the therapist will work with that partner to share it in therapy.

What if my partner doesn’t want to go to therapy?

That’s normal! 25% of partners aren't open to couples counselling yet. Maybe your partner already had a bad experience in individual or couples therapy. Maybe they’ve heard bad things, or are nervous. Be patient, get curious, invite, and in the meantime, go to therapy on your own.

Is couples counselling only for married couples?

No! Couples counselling is for friends, dating, cohabitating, married, separated, or divorced and co-parenting partners. Couples counselling is for anyone who wants to improve their relationships.

Do therapists meet with partners individually and together?

Some therapists have an intake process that includes a joint and individual sessions. Sometimes one partner needs more support, and they can have individual sessions with the couples therapist or with a different individual therapist, depending on the couple counsellor’s approach and the couple's preference.

Will we have homework in couples counselling?

Whether you attend weekly or biweekly, the time you spend in therapy weekly will likely give you something to reflect on or practice between sessions. If you would like specific homework, you can ask your therapist for tasks to engage in during the week.

Does insurance cover couples counselling?

Most private insurers cover couples counselling under health services. Some employment insurance coverage however, limits therapy to individual counselling, or has separate coverage for couples or family counselling. You can check with your insurance provider to find out.

How much does couples counselling cost?

Our couples therapy sessions are $220 with a Psychologist or Social Worker with direct billing for most insurance companies, or a receipt to claim for re-imbursement or as a medical expense on your taxes. Couples counselling sessions with a Certified Canadian Counsellor are $180; check with your insurance to confirm coverage for mental health counselling. Sliding scale fees are available.

Do I have to see a couples therapist near me?

With online therapy, you are able to connect with counsellors across Calgary and Alberta so you have more choice in finding the best therapist for you, based on your needs and preferences. You can choose from couples psychologists and marriage counsellors who live across the province and find the best fit for you.

Our compassionate counsellors want you to love your partner, and also like your therapist.

We get it. We're people too.

Our relationship therapists want to join your journey and help you and your partner thrive.
